Transgressions
I was painting outside at a train station when a group of people came up dressed as Zombies(and no it wasn’t Halloween). One of the Zombies kept isolating from the group to smoke. I started thinking about recent tabus and minor transgressions. We used to smoke everywhere. This encounter engendered further brainstorming and observations of human transgressions and natural transgressions. They arose from observations at events, political unrest, and global pandemic. Some of my thoughts involved minor transgressions that transformed into major transgressions before I could even finish the painting. “Going Into Work While Feeling Sick” started as a young worker who felt sick was going into work anyway when the global pandemic hit and turned her job into that of an essential worker and she now had an ethical decision to make.
I had a lot of fun creating this body of work for my solo exhibition at Huron Valley Council for the Arts which will be showing until January 21, 2022.
